House Reports

Taking a page from Shadow, Chaos and I are going to be posting our reports on the Message Board to make sure that everyone gets a chance to read them. Also, the Clan summit is working to decrease the amount of overlap between reports and chaos and I decided that it'd work best if we each reported every other week. The reports will still be coming out on fridays, it'll just be switching between Chaos and myself who's putting them out.

Ektrosis Aedile Report #1

House News

If you haven't heard already there's a new Aedile in town. Who is this person, you ask? Well it's none other then...*drum roll* ME! For those of you who don't know me, I've been in the DB for almost 6 years now and I've spent most of that time in Tal. I was Quaestor of Archanis before the split, and I took over again after the split in hopes of reviving the house. When the summits realized that reviving it would be impossible the house was closed and I took over as Aedile of Dinaari, where I stayed for a little while before school caught up to me and I was forced to resign and go rogue. Now I'm back and when Chaos asked for applications for Aedile I jumped at the chance, and here we are now.

Chaos and I are working on revamping the Jedi Trials. We've already made minor revisions, the most noteworthy being that now there is no required waiting time between promotions, it's been changed to a suggested waiting time. This was done to help the people who are extremely active and speed through the requirements for each promotion. We felt that it would be best to allow those people to be promoted faster then the norm. The recommended waiting time is how long Chaos and I feel that it should take to complete the requirements for each promotion with a moderate level of activity. Expect to hear more about the revisions in the next week or two. We're also going to be mailing APPs and NOVs to make sure that they know the new requirements for promotions and to get them moving on them.

In addition, one of the things that the clan summit is working on with the houses is to eliminate the amount of information that is reported multiple times. Chaos and I got the idea that instead of trying to coordinate who would report what each week we'd simply switch off with our reports. I'm doing the house report this week, so Chaos won't be writing one and next week he is going to write the report so I won't be writing one. I also won't be reporting on clan news, again to lessen the cross reporting, so you're gonna have to start reading the Consul and Proconsul reports.

Ektrosis Aedile Report #2

Sorry the report is a little late, I got Knights of the Old Republic 2 on wed and it's been consuming my life ever since. Frankly, I forgot that yesterday was Friday. For the last three days I've either been eating, sleeping or playing KoTOR2 until the wee hours of the morning, usually around 7 am. The game kicks ass and I'm almost finished with it, but it consumed me completely and totally for the last three days.

As you may have heard, the hard drive on my laptop has gone to the big motherboard in the sky. It was working then poof, dead. I have a comp that I can use till I go back to school, but once I'm back I'll be on semi-LoA. I'll have access to my email through lab computers, but I won't be on IRC at all till I get mine back. I hope to only be gone a day or two, but it all depends on how long it takes them to get my comp working again. If you need me during this time email me and I'll be checking it at least twice a day between classes. I go back last on the 15th of January and hope to be back around the 17th or 18th. I'll update you as I find things out.

I changed my name to Taku "Crix" Matsuki, so when you see a new name in the AED spot it's the same guy with a new name.

Chaos said something about it last week so I won't nag too much this week, but you need to CC Chaos and myself when you submit something to a comp. We don't get a list of who participated in each comp, although that would be nice, so the only way we know if you did something is if you tell us. We like promoting and giving out medals, but we need to know that there's a reason for them, if you don't tell us that you did something then we don't know that you need a promo. The same goes for the Trials. When you complete the requirements for the next rank send Chaos and myself an email telling us what you did. We don't get an email from the database for a lot of the things that you need to do, like creating a history, so it's up to you to let us know when you've done them. The bottom like: If you want a promo then do stuff and tell us about it.

Also, if you guys want to run a comp or two all you have to do is send Chaos and myself and email with the details and we'll most likely approve it. You can even send us ideas for a comp and we'll help you build it into a complete comp. I may start running small comps, like 5 question trivia in my reports, if people would like it and do the comps. So let me know if you're interested and I'll cook something up.

As I'm sure some of you have noticed, I haven't been on IRC at all lately. I haven't dissapeared, I'm just back at school where for some reason they've decided to block IRC again. I'm smashing heads and trying to get this changed but it may take a little while. If you want to run a clan-wide comp do the same thing except email Duga and Ben with Chaos and myself CCed. We just ask that it's approved so that we know what's going on and don't have 20 comps running one week and none the next.

I didn't list this in the medals section because I wanted to make sure it was noticed. On Febuary 10th Krath Epis Dark Sabre Taldrya was awarded an Amethyst Kukri. Here is the text of the recommendation, as submitted by Combat Master Dalthid:

One of the longest standing and most skilled staff members, Dark Sabre is
among the few who have navigated through all aspects of the ACC and it's
staff. Hired by Cyris over two years ago, his dedication to the Centre was
clear as he dove headlong into duties as a Judge. An unquestionable ethic
and honesty with combatants led to his selection as an Operator under
Combat Master Alaric. Standing out with both tenure and ability, DS was
then selected as a Senior Operator by the current CM until structural
changes dissolved the position. Staff members have come and gone, but DS
is still there, offering his help and critiques to well over 200 battles.
This one aspect of the Brotherhood is perhaps his greatest work, despite
his time in other leadership roles, because it is devoid of alignment,
save it's alignment to the Brotherhood as a whole. As a combatant, he is
equally skilled and perhaps one of the best in the ACC. Winning the first
Pilot's Championship Ladder, DS was awarded the title of "Ace". Though
they are 'personal' gains and skills and can't really be seen as merits
for this award by most - I'd be happy to argue the point. Countless new
combatants have patterned themselves after the Epis in both style and
imagination, seeming to have found their idol. Influence, positive
influence, is a trait we often overlook from those in leadership positions
when considering them for awards, but in this case, it's undeniable. I
won't attempt to dazzle this recommendation with numbers, two years is a
lot of information to sift through. Suffice it to say; at his lowest point
of activity, DS's judgments went unquestioned. They were honest,
forthright and crystal clear - at his best, his ethics were no different.
Over the course of his time, he is responsible for the Judgment of
hundreds of battles and the training of many initiates despite not ever
having filled the position of a Trainer. He gets around, but he does so
because his rapport with the staff allows him to. There will be a day, I'm
sure, when we will see DS leave the ACC staff - when that is? Who knows.
Rest assured, he will leave knowing he has left his mark on the ACC as one
of the longest standing, honorable and knowledgeable staff members that we
have had. Until then though, I'd like to extend a "thank you", on behalf
of four Combat Masters, to Dark Sabre Taldrya for his extended service and
dedication to the Brotherhood and the ACC.

All About Crix
Sorry this is coming out a little later then usual, when I got home for spring break I had about 20 projects that needed to be taken care of around the house. Speaking of spring break and being home, I can actually be on IRC now. Yay! For those of you who don't remember, my school for some reason feels the need to block IRC, which is why I'm not on it at all. I'm hoping that when I get back to school the people running the network will stop being idiots and unblock IRC, but I'm not counting on it. You have me on IRC for a week, enjoy it while it lasts.

Ekky News
The Envoys from both Dinaari and Ektrosis have been appointed as their house's Rollmasters. This was done because as just Envoys they weren't getting important emails from the database, such as promotion and medal notices. Adding them as Rollmasteres in addition to Envoys gives them the ability to get these emails which will help them considerably.

Those of you who have been around for a few years might remember when Horsemen of the Apocalypse was a battle team in the house. It was closed a little bit after the split due to lack of membership in the house. Well the team has been reopened as part of an effort to help train new leadership for the house and promote activity on a more individual level.

With the opening of the HoA, Chaos and I are going to be reassigning everyone Novice and above to one of the three battle teams. The reassignment is going to be more or less random, but we will do our best to honor any requests that are made. If there is a specific battle team that you'd like to join then email Chaos AND myself to let us know. The TETs are going to be staying in their current positions, however. We are also adding one more requirment for the Novice promotion guidlines. It is that the person emails Chaos and myself asking to be placed in a battle team. The website will be updated shortly to reflect this.

Ugh. Last week was crazy busy, I barely had time to sleep between all the stuff I had going on including 2 exams, a 10 page paper and my blue belt test for karate, to name a few. That's all on top of my normal homework, also. But I survived, and I got my blue belt (surviving that was a challenge, you try to fight for 10 min and see what happens) so yay!

Comps:
There are a bunch of comps going on for the clan including Landmarks (graphics), Obscure Gaming Ladder (games), The Journey (writing), and Tal Trivia (email and IRC). Those are all in addition to the ongoing gaming nights on tuesday, thursday, saturday and sunday. There are plenty of things to do and you can expect to see another comp or two from Chaos and myself soon.

One note about entering comps, though. As much as we love for people to enter lots and lots of comps you need to read the comp's details before rushing off to do it. Make sure that you submit it in the right format, to the right person and you're in the group that the comp was intended to be for. If you mess something like that up then you risk having your work for the comp be for nothing because of a simple mistake that could have been avoided if you'd looked at the comp's details.

That's my rant for the week, just make sure you pay attention to things.

Things are going along pretty normally, activity almost always slows down after a GJW or other large comp. People need to take a rest after kicking so much ass. We do have a few small and easy comps lined up to keep everyone working a little (and most of you need to participate in comps for your promos, it'd be really mean of Chaos and I to not supply you with the comps that you need).

The Final Word:
Overall, I'm very happy with how Ektrosis is working. It has always been a great house, stretching back to when I first joined the clan 5 years ago, but we've taken huge leaps in the last year. A major part of that is due to how much we're focusing on helping new members and providing them with opertunities to get involved and get promoted. You guys voted for Alanna for Most Dedicated so you know what she does for the house (and the clan too), but Chaos and I are the only ones who see every email that she sends out and every question that she answers. It's amazing to see how much work she does on a very small scale. She doesn't work on huge projects that everyone sees the direct result of but she still has a huge impact on the house and clan in the form of well educated, dedicated members who are active and interested. Alanna more then earned the Most Dedicated award.

Week 3 of the Great Jedi War is upon us. The events for this week (other than the ones that run continuously throughout the war):

We still need people on the ACC and BF2/EaW/Misc. ladders the most, so if you can do any of that, get out there and play some duels or write some battles. The wargame results were released, and we came in first this week, so good job to the team organizing all of that. We're neck-and-neck with CSP for 1st place, so everyone needs to give 100% the whole war. Endurance is key, and usually the 4th and 5th weeks are when most people die out and start slowing their pace. This is where we LEAP ahead and dominate.

-=||=- Sklib's Random Thing of the Week -=||=-
I came across something in Popular Science the other day. It's a program called "Folding@Home" that the University of Stanford is running to help research of Alzheimer's, cancer, Parkinson's, and other diseases. By using the unused processing power of your computer, it runs tests and stuff on your computer in the background, then sends the results back to the school.

Note: It isn't testing your computer itself, it's just using your processor to run its own test. For example, at the moment my program is running tests on a protein that is often associated with cerebral palsy, and is analyzing how that protein reacts with others to create the disease. You can find a lot more info, as well as the program, at folding.stanford.edu . I created a group if you decide to run the program, the number is 81251.

The most important thing for everyone to do right now is spam all the GJW events. If you have MS paint, you can do graphics. If you have a word processor, you can do poetry or fiction. It's really that simple, and doesn't require a ton of effort for those time-manageable events. If you have games or are qualified in the ACC, get out there and start doing that, we need all the contributions from everybody.
