No. But I do think the emperor would make a good replacement ;)

My friend's nephew thought he looked like Dracula. (don't ask)

Even though I don't like the comparison, I could see where people would get confused.

I did not know the Emperor was Catholic :P

How could you not? He shoots lightning from his fingertips! How much clearer could it be!

heh Natzinger (it's not a typo) will make Palpatine to look like a boyscout and throw the chatolic church into the 12th century in a blink of an eye. In Rome we are already sharpening our swords and cleaning our chainmails =/
Beside, I HATE all this bloody people that invaded my town..

Oh be quite you shut in :P

So Ratzinger is an old guy. Old guy's have wrinkles and just about all of them can look like the Emperor if you have a good imagination. Even Bush with that stupid smile of his and his slow way of talking. Just throw a hood over him to hide most of his face and there you go, another Emperor.

Well, John Paul was older. He may not have been when he was elected but he was still from an older generation, both came from the war generation, so they're not that different.

Besides, he's already 78, so he won't be around for that long as it is, which means I doubt he'll be able to push any major reforms to the Church through.

Despite the fact that I chuckled at this comparison when it was sent to me over MSN, it doesn't seem very appropriate for the message boards of a site where there could be plenty of Catholics- that sort of thing might offend people, which we don't want to do.

Incidentally, I've read he was part of the Hitlerjugend as a kid.

People who take offence at *humour* are way too touchy.

It's a DJB policy for the Forums and IRC not to discuss religion and politics. Too many people have too many wild opinions and it's an easy way to piss everyone off.

On that note:

1. I found the comparison hilarious.
2. I thought the one of JP2 on the Death Star was even more hilarious. I made it my wallpaper at work.
3. It's been reported that the new Pope took the name of Benedict to signify his belief of short reign.
4. Yes, he was Hitlerjugend but it's tough to refuse when you're 12.

I'm not the most devout Catholic out there, and I imagine anyone who'd get all bent out of shape over comparing Benny to Palpy wouldn't be in the DJB to begin with. They usually frown on "role playing" and other devil worship stuff.

Nah, Benedict means benevolent in Latin. Bullsh1t, if you'd pardon my language.

Every Pope who has chosen the name of Benedict has had a short reign. Some as few as a couple months.

Well, hopefully this fascist won't last long either. BTW, I sent you a PM, did you get it?

Are you sure?

Tiberius

23-04-2005 16:48:08

Yes, Benedict means blessed in Latin. Benedict is not a fascist he is a conservative, like me. Those individuals who prefer the traditional method over the modern. Thats not so bad. :P

Súrion

23-04-2005 17:00:07

No it's not so bad, I am also conservative.

When one says condoms used for protection against HIV and homosexuals are an evil, that is not conservative to me. That is fascist.

And this is why we don't discuss Politics and Religion.

End of conversation.
