What was his first name?

So I was just in my own little world at some point in time (I get chances like this a lot in a mindless job), and I came to the realization that Palpatine is just that: Palpatine. He has no first name, and in no canon source I have seen is it mentioned. Is there possibly a place out there where his name is mentioned, or was it never officialized? If so, begin the speculating...........NOW! :D

Personally, I'd go with Joe. Nice strong name. Joe Palpatine. :P

Fanon (second only to canon) claims that his first name is "Cos", stemming from the fact that in earlier drafts, Palpatine was known as "Cos Da[Expletive Deleted]".

In the original novel of Star Wars (not A New Hope, this was before it was even given a name) he was refered to as Cos Palpatine. Thats been largely misinterpreted though as I believe its been said somewhere that when Lucas used the term Cos he didn't mean it as a name he meant it as a title- i.e. Chief of State. That book is now out of print and no longer canon. There are also some people who will probably tell you his first name is Dantius but that doesn't have any official background at all... at the most its a creation of SuperShadow. If you don't know who that is don't ask... all you need to know is SuperShadow is a retard and that nothing he says is true.

Lucas has since said Palpatine doesn't have an official first name... he's just Palpatine. It'll stay that way until a book decides to explore his origins and his life before becoming Plagueis's apprentice. That won't be happening anytime soon though judging by the rundown for new releases for the next five or so years.

Its possible they might mention his backstory a little in Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader but I doubt it.

Cos, huh? I don't know, I would've been dissapointed if that became his official name. It just seems...Un-Emperorish. :P

I read in a source it was Yodar Palpatine Krilch.
- sounds a lot like Yoda to me so I'm guessing it's bull[Expletive Deleted].

Then again, from the same source I found out Darth Maul's name was Khamier Sarin and Boba Fett's name was Jaster Mareel...

Cool, I've never heard of those before. And I don't know whta the Emperor's first name is. I usually just refer to him as 'Palpatine' or 'Darth Sidious.' :P

Supershadow - the Star Wars world's most infamous liar - says that Palpatine's first name is: Dantius.

I'll say that the name is "kasjoawjd" - look! I'm just like Supershadow! Now I can tell everyone I've been to Lucas' house and played Episode 1 Racer on the N64 with him and Frank Oz! :P

i think a front name would take away the mystery about him! now it's just Palpatine, "born" on Naboo, Senator - Chancellor - Emperor.

who knows, maybe Palpatine is an alias, maybe he was Bob ........... before Plagueis trained him to become Lord Sidious!

Ethen

28-08-2005 16:05:12

Ian is the first name of the dude who played him. I am seroiusly confused by this now : P

Ood Bnar

in the novels leading up to ep3 you learn of an old force technique that alows persons to hide themselves for the force. palpatine learnd Dooku and dooku learnd the technique to Ventress

it's a power known also to the jedi. Obi-Wan refers to it as an ancient technique that isn't used by the jedi anymore.

Early draft scripts of Star Wars identified the Emperor as Cos Da[Expletive Deleted], who ruled from the Imperial throneworld of Alderaan.

lol, there's no curse word there!

Perhaps Palps was known as:
George Smith before he became evil and had to get a cool name.

Wow - major thread revival... but I'll let it go this time because it's an ongoing question.

Yeah he was a senator from Naboo, but where did he really come from? It's all those other questions that are going to plague SW fans for a while - at least until George or someone approved by George throws some ink to paper about Palpatine's background.

These questions bug me too...

What was his original name?
Why did he turn to the Dark Side?
Where did he meet/train under his master?

And for that matter what was Maul's name before turning? Though this is probably out there already.

Maul was 'Khamier Sarin' according to a few sources...

the rest i just don't know. :(

My only problem with "Cos" Palpatine is that in Michael Jackson's "The Wiz," Bill Cosby's character was the "Great and Powerful Cos." Kind'a creepy association. But Cos seems to be the accepted non-canon, from some of the fan-fic I've read.

Try Star Wars website and Wikipedia, plus the all amazing Google. Also, I don't think a first name for Palpatine has ever been finalized by Lucas, but many claim they know it.

As far as I am aware, the "Cos" came about because, in early draughts, he was referred to as COS Palpatine, COS standing for Chief Of State...

as referred to the action comics, and an interveiw from George Lucas, the name is Dantius Palpatine.
