House Odan-Urr Communication Policies:

Mailing List

The House mailing list (odan-urr@googlegroups.com) is the House's direct form of communication. Making it easy for members, leaders and others who may use our mailing list to easily communicate with the masses in a simple form. While IRC is recommended as the primary form of communication for members, given its real-time chat form, communication and activity on the house mailing list is encouraged and welcomed by all subscribed members. However, there are some things to keep in mind when using the mailing list:

  1. Communication is the lifeblood of any unit in the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, we encourage any member (new, old, leader, or guest) to join the conversation and start topics of their own.
    [/*:m]
  2. Flaming, Bashing, Trolling, Spam, Rude conduct and Profane Language will NOT be tolerated
    [/*:m]
  3. Don't abuse the ability to email your fellow members at mass, while communication is encouraged; Spam is not. Spam can count as topics unrelated to House Odan-Urr, the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, Star Wars, or associated interests as well as any attempt to market or promote interests for personal/financial gain. Furthermore, don't overload fellow members with too many new topics a day as many people use personal or central emails.
    [/*:m]
  4. If a member finds that they are receiving too many emails a day or just wish to switch to a condensed form or summary period; please contact the House Summit and they can edit your permissions to receive emails every 3 days or weekly or in 1 mass attachment.
    [/*:m]
  5. Heated discussion topics (politics, religion, etc) are to be kept to a minimum, and participants should obey any requests to cease activities as soon as they are made
    [/*:m]
  6. Be considerate of the other users who may not have seen a movie or played a game that you're talking about. When a game, movie or book is released, please wait sixth months before discussing spoiler content without using a spoiler tag.
    [/*:m]
  7. Do not post copyright-infringing material
    [/*:m]
  8. Do not post "offensive" posts, links or images
    [/*:m]
  9. Questionable Content: Since we can't have a rule to cover everything, this is the rule to, well, cover everything. The mailing list is a public form, so act like you would if you were in a public place. (A nice place!) These issues are left to the discretion of individual moderators, but may include any material that is knowingly false and/or defamatory, misleading, spammy, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, sexist, obscene, racist, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, that otherwise violates any law, or that encourages conduct constituting a criminal offense. Asking for or offering any of the material listed above is also out not permitted.
    [/*:m]
  10. Members who refuse to adhere to the rules will be warned and then banned from posting to the mailing list for a period of time deemed appropriate (Note: The googlegroup owner and moderators have the ability to limit and remove your ability to post and receive messages from the mailing list)[/*:m][/list:u]

    IRC and #odan-urr

As mentioned, IRC and specifically our house channel (#odan-urr) is recommended as the primary form of communication for members in HOU. Allowing you to chat in real-time with your fellow members, IRC is offered through several programs and there is a guide located here to help you get started. While it may be our recommended form of communication, note that all members should feel encouraged to use whatever means to communicated with fellow members and should look at other methods like the house mailing list (rules listed above), googlegroups, direct email, skype, and teamspeak. However, when communicating in our public house channel there are a few things to keep in mind:

    1. The Channel operates under an After-hours policy, which limits certain offensive material (Rude conduct, Profane Language, heated discussion topics and anything that may be above a PG13 rating) from being discussed until after 10pm EST.
      [/*:m]
    2. Flaming, Bashing, and Trolling will NOT be tolerated
      [/*:m]
    3. Harassment of any and all channel-goers will be strictly NOT tolerated.
      [/*:m]
    4. Be considerate of the other users who may not have seen a movie or played a game that you're talking about. When a game, movie or book is released, please wait sixth months before discussing spoiler content without using a spoiler tag.
      [/*:m]
    5. Do not post copyright-infringing material
      [/*:m]
    6. Members who refuse to adhere to the rules will be warned and then banned from posting to the channel for a period of time deemed appropriate[/*:m][/list:u]

Read up on these policies and learn them well; they are in place to better serve you, and to ensure that #Odan-Urr is a place for free, fun, and light-hearted discussion, where people are treated with dignity and respect.
