Operation: Lawn Gnome

Fellow crazy DBers on the North American continent!

I come to you with a proposal. Our domination of the two great countries of the USA and Canada is to soon commence. Maybe even Mexico if we're lucky. While the first DB lawn gnome campaign was only semi-successful, I am confident that a second attempt would be a lot of fun. However, it will be a bit more organized this time around. I will start with people signing up to "host" the gnome and then will try to figure out a good way to get him around as cheaply as possible for all involved.

If you are interested please write down your name, clan, and general location of where you would want the gnome mailed to. ***DO NOT*** give out your street address or ZIP code on this forum. A simple city and state/province will suffice. Add your country for kicks. If you are under the age of 18 make sure you get your parents' permission as well.

For the glory of the DJB! :w00t:

Ok... the basic deal with the lawn gnome project is to send a RL lawn gnome around to various DBers and have them take pictures of it with local landmarks or whatever. Then they pass it on to another DBer. The reason I'm doing a North American Campaign is due to postage and interest. USA postage is relatively low and so is Canadian (even between the two countries). I know Europe is hella expensive in this regard.

As for you ocean-type peoples... maybe one can go around New Zealand and Aussieland? Proove there is enough interest. I think I'll order the NA gnome soon.

As for the Euros... nobody signed up on that forum. The link is in the first post of this thread.

Ok... I just ordered two gnomes... give me 5-8 business days and then we'll get down to... uh... business. B)

We should organize it so that the gnome gets handed off to the closest DBer. So instead of me in Sacramento receiving the Gnome from say Texas and sending it to saaay New York, I should receive it from LA and send it to Oregon. That way we aren’t spending money willy nilly on postage we otherwise wouldn’t have to.

That's the beauty of the USPS... it costs the same no matter where in the USA you send it. The only thing about big distance is maybe an extra day to get there. The only time we'd worry about payment is crossing into Canada. That requires more postage and most likely a customs form. Just say "Gnome (1) --- $25" and check off "gift."
